Modifications to Food Service + Fee Waiver Processes for the 2020-21 School Year

This school year, to make processes easier for families and to minimize physical touchpoints, we have made modifications to the way we will provide meals to students when they are conducting off-site learning. We have also modified the method for applying for school and athletic fee waivers and paying school fees. Please see below for details.

The Wauwatosa School District will continue to provide daily nutritious, balanced meals - including breakfast and lunch - to students regardless of their model of instruction. This includes students enrolled in Phase Into Learning, Tosa Connected and Wauwatosa Virtual Academy.

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) waiver that allowed our District to provide meals to any member of our community will expire on Monday, August 31, 2020. Starting on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, we will only have the ability to provide daily breakfast and lunch to students enrolled in our District. Effective September 1, 2020 meals are no longer free and must be paid for using the student’s lunch account.

Cost NOTE: Please see updated cost information here and note that the information below regarding cost is no longer current.

Meal costs will not change from previous years, and families will be charged for meals based on eligibility.

  • Students who qualify for free meals will receive daily breakfast and lunch at no cost.
  • Students who qualify for reduced price meals will pay $.30 per day for breakfast and $.40 per day for lunch.
  • Students who do not qualify for free or reduced price meals will pay $1.50 per day for breakfast and $2.50 (elementary) / $3.20 (secondary) per day for lunch.
  • Milk is included with all meals. Additional milk can be purchased for $.40.

Students who wish to purchase meals for virtual learning days must have funds available in their account. Funds may be added through the online MyPaymentsPlus portal. Our Food Services Department will contact families with insufficient funds by phone and/or email prior to pickup. Please note that students who are eligible for free meals do not need to have funds in their account. Students who do not have funds in their account will still receive lunch on the days they participate in classroom learning in their brick and mortar school building.

Pick-Up

Students enrolled in Tosa Connected or Wauwatosa Virtual Academy may pick up meals on Wednesdays between 9 and 11 am in either the Longfellow cafeteria (7600 W. North Avenue) or via the drive through window at Whitman (11100 W. Center Street). Students will receive meals for a full week (5 breakfasts, 5 lunches) at this time. Orders can be placed by completing the Virtual Learners Lunch Request Form below. Meals will not be provided if the form is not submitted.

If metrics dictate that Phase Into Learning must be conducted completely online, students will follow the same process as those enrolled in Tosa Connected or WVA, outlined above. If metrics dictate that Phase Into Learning follows a hybrid model of instruction, students may take home meals for the three days they will not be learning in their brick and mortar school. For example:

  • Cohort A: Student attends school in-person on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday afternoon, the student receives breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Families will need to place an order to have meals provided for those days
  • Cohort B: Student attends school in-person on Thursday and Friday. On Friday afternoon, the student receives breakfast and lunch for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Families will need to place an order to have meals provided for those days

Orders can be placed by completing the Hybrid Learners Lunch Request Form below. Meals will not be provided if the form is not submitted.

If metrics dictate that Phase Into Learning can be conducted in-person five days per week, purchased meals will be served to students at school and families are not required to submit a form.

Eligibility

All students may purchase meals for the days they are learning outside of our school buildings, including students enrolled in Tosa Connected or Wauwatosa Virtual Academy, and students participating in hybrid or full-virtual learning in the Phase Into Learning model.

Families can complete one form to purchase meals for all students in the household for the full five-day school week. Please click on the appropriate form below:
