Mayfair Rotary donates trees to Wauwatosa School District as part of national call to action

The property surrounding Wauwatosa West High School has 15 new trees thanks to a generous donation from the Mayfair Rotary Club in response to a national call to action.

Rotary International President H.S. Riseley challenged every Rotary club across the country to make a difference in their communities by planting a tree for each of its members.

“Environmental degradation and global climate change are serious threats to everyone, Riseley said. “They are having a disproportionate impact on those who are most vulnerable, those to whom Rotary has the greatest responsibility. Yet environmental issues rarely register on the Rotary agenda,” he said.

Members of the Mayfair Rotary, Hoppe Tree Service, and buildings and ground staff of the Wauwatosa School District planted the 15 donated trees on the property of West High School on Saturday, October 20th.

“We appreciate the generosity of the Mayfair Rotary in funding the purchase of these trees, as well as Hoppe Tree Service for donating their time for planting. Green Space in Wauwatosa is a treasured asset and this donation not only beautifies the property of one of our schools but is a
positive contribution to our local environment and we appreciate the community collaboration and partnership,” said Superintendent Phil Ertl.

Mayfair Rotary was established in 1985 and the Club has been supporting the Wauwatosa community since then.  Each year, Mayfair Rotary engages in many initiatives in the Wauwatosa community and on the international level as well.  On an international level, Mayfair Rotary has touched communities around the world with polio eradication efforts and clean water projects.  Locally, Mayfair Rotary’s’ motto is “Helping Grow Tomorrow’s Leaders”.  Mayfair Rotary supports the Wauwatosa School District with annual scholarships for graduating seniors, assists students at Capitol West Academy and sponsors students who attend the Rotary World Affairs Seminar each year.
