Wauwatosa School District and Wauwatosa Education Association Issue Joint Statement Regarding Collaborative Discussions

District Commits to Construction of New Educator Compensation System

On Thursday, September 16, 2021, Wauwatosa School District Superintendent Dr. Demond Means and Director of Human Resources, Ms. Jennifer Fotsch met and conferred via Zoom with members from the Wauwatosa Education Association (WEA) compensation team: Genevieve Berg (Lincoln), Sue Dederich (East), John Hushek (Longfellow) David Keech (West), Jenny Koslakiewicz (Jefferson), Kelly Rampleberg (East), Amber Rush (Roosevelt). 


WEA leaders expressed interest in collaborating with the Wauwatosa School District to develop a new compensation system for the district’s educators and support staff. Both the WEA and the Wauwatosa School District have agreed that the development of a new compensation system is a goal that demands immediate attention. 


“I am optimistic and enthusiastic about the opportunity to assess and revise how we compensate our educators,” stated Dr. Means. “Now is the time to develop a balanced system that reflects the collaborative spirit and educational equity that we deeply value in the Wauwatosa School District. I look forward to continued collaboration with the Wauwatosa Education Association in the coming months.” 


The WEA and the District share the goal of attracting and retaining the highest quality educators for the students of Wauwatosa,” stated Kelly Rampelberg, spokesperson for the WEA compensation team. “We are excited to create a well-developed compensation system for our educators. We are looking forward to creating something that will have a positive and lasting impact for years to come. It’s time to start working better together."
