"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." (Dr. Suess) When students begin the journey of learning how to read, they eventually begin the lifelong thrill of reading to learn. As a literacy coach and reading teacher my enthusiasm is fueled by teaching students and coaching/mentoring teachers to learn skills to help build capacity for them be successful now and in the future.
I know that each student and teacher requires different approaches to help him or her elevate their knowledge. To build positive relationships and be highly effective in my work I rely on my varied 15 years of elementary classroom teaching experiences and specialized training in L.E.T.R.S., student centered coaching, intervention literacy programs, and equitable practices.
My educational background includes a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have also earned a MA in Curriculum and Instruction. Additional post-graduate work occurred at varied higher-level institutions including Marquette University and Carroll University to earn additional licenses issued by the State of Wisconsin including master educator, reading teacher (316), reading specialist (317), principal (51), and director of instruction (10). In 2005 I began the journey of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher to certify in 2007 and renew certification in 2017.
I began my career as a New Entrant teacher at Bayview Primary School in Auckland, New Zealand. New Entrant students start school on their 5th birthday! I aspire to use those experiences and my technology skills to support undergraduate students as they pursue international student teaching practicums.
