If there is a need to speak to someone directly, please call between 7:15am and 3:30pm. Written notes are not accepted.
Absence Procedures
1. Leaving Early or Arriving Late During the School Day
A student who needs to leave the school building for any reason during the school day or arrive late must check in and obtain a pass from the Attendance Window at the main office. This includes during passing time, lunch periods, and study halls. Guardians who wish for a student to be excused during the school day must call the school prior to the time the student is to be excused. Any student who leaves the building or arrives late without prior permission will be considered unexcused.
2. Planned Absences
When a student is to be absent from Wauwatosa East High School, the parent or guardian MUST CALL the Attendance Line (414-773-2002) on the day of, or prior to, the absence. - For attendance purposes, students MUST SIGN OUT via the form within Infinite Campus when leaving the building. If the student fails to sign out, they will be marked absent.
- If a student chooses to leave the building during their approved study hall, they must leave the building for the entirety of that period. If a student chooses not to leave the building for their privileges, they must report to the Raider Room to have their attendance taken.
- Privleges are not a hall pass to the Learning Center, or non-supervised area.
- Students may not use this privilege to leave during lunch unless they have 5th hour study hall OR "A" lunch with 4th hour study hall OR "B" lunch with 6th hour study hall.
- The privileges card must be carried and presented upon demand to verify that this privilege has been earned, including being stopped by the police in the community and getting questioned as to why you are not in school.
- If the student fails to sign out and is marked absent, a parent or guardian may call the Attendance line within 48 hours of the absence to excuse it. After 48 hours, the absence will be marked as truant. The Attendance line phone number is (414) 773-2002. Voicemail is available 24 hours a day.
- Students must reapply for privileges EACH semester!

How to Check Out for Privileges
There is a one-question survey within Infinite Campus that students must complete and submit for each day they would like to use their privileges and leave campus. Students may submit the survey at any time of day, from 12:00 AM until 11:59 PM*. Each submission is only valid for the date it is submitted. The survey may be completed within the mobile app or on a desktop.
*Please note: this means attendance may not be recorded until the next school day, depending upon when the student fills out the form.
Students:- Log in to your Infinite Campus Student Portal
- Go to Message Center
- Click "Survey" tab
- Please note: After the first time you submit the survey, "You have already taken this survey" will appear. Ignore that message and complete the survey each day you would like to use your privileges.
- Fill out survey
- Click "Complete"
Having issues checking out?
If the student is experiencing difficulty submitting the survey on the mobile app while in the building due to service issues, they may either:- Submit the survey via Infinite Campus on their Chromebook (not the mobile app), or
- Wait to submit the survey when they are out of the building for the periods they are utilizing privileges (per the terms of privileges, they should not be in the building if they are utilizing privileges).

FAQs
Why is my student being marked absent?
During study hall, the study hall supervisor marks any student absent who is not physically present in study hall, just like a regular class. At the end of the school day, attendance will be excused for those who checked out using the survey in Infinite Campus.
Our Attendance office runs a report daily for students who have checked out using their privileges via the survey in Infinite Campus. This report must be run daily because the survey used to check out is not directly tied to the attendance module within Infinite Campus; attendance must be marked manually each day, which is why it is done all at once at the end of the school day.
Why am I receiving the automated call? My student checked out using privileges.
The main factor on whether or not you will receive an automated call regarding your student’s attendance in study hall is what time they check out via the survey in Infinite Campus. There are two automated calls placed each day - one at 10:00am and one at 6:00pm. Please refer to the checklist guidelines below to determine whether or not your will receive a robocall.
As a reminder, students may submit the survey at any time of day, from 12:00 AM until 11:59 PM (note: this means attendance may not be excused until the next school day, depending upon when the student fills out the form). Each survey submission is only valid for the date it is submitted, meaning students must check out via the survey each day they would like to use their privileges. Instead of attending study hall, they check out.
Guidelines: Will I receive a robocall?- If your student checks out via the survey before or during school hours, their attendance will be excused that afternoon. You will not receive a robocall.
- If your student checks out via the survey after school hours, you will receive a robocall that your student was absent. You may disregard this call, as their attendance will be excused the following school day.
- If your student does not check out, you will receive a robocall that your student was absent. If you receive the evening robocall, your student may still check out via the survey until 11:59 PM, and their attendance will be excused the following school day.
- Submit the survey via Infinite Campus on their Chromebook (not the mobile app), or
AGE OF MAJORITY
-
Students who have reached 18 years of age may be granted permission by their guardians to originate their own excused absences. Paperwork must be on file with the office for students to have this privilege.
The paperwork is a Google Form and can be sent via email upon request from the main office. The parent/guardian and student will be notified via email if approved.
