Ms. Lauren Roznowski Hayden
Welcome! I am the orchestra teacher at Longfellow Middle School. I teach 6th-8th grade orchestra and teach lessons to all middle school orchestra students. This is my first year in the Wauwatosa School District, and my twelfth year teaching. Previously, I have taught in the Lake Geneva and Kettle Moraine school districts. I have a Bachelor's of Music Degree from Lawrence University in Music Education and Viola Performance, and a Master of Music Degree from Northwestern University. I also have a principal license and am Nationally Board Certified in Instrumental Music Education.
As a teacher and professional, I have specialized in interdisciplinary teaching, which means I try to create meaningful connections between music and other content areas. I especially enjoy linking English and history to music. I have also spent a great deal of time studying and specializing in personalized learning and innovative assessment practices. All of these components are evident in the classes I teach.
In middle school orchestra, students study a wide variety of musical styles and time periods, and perform in 3-4 concerts during the school year. Students also participate in solo ensemble, playing both a solo and a small group ensemble. I am thrilled to be teaching in Wauwatosa, where I grew up. I am a graduate of Roosevelt, Longfellow and Tosa West.
In my free time outside of music, I enjoy being active in the Wauwatosa community with my husband Mike, and our two daughters, Harper and Frances. I like to camp, hike, read, cook, and paint with watercolors.
