What’s the difference between a PTO and a PTA?
Lincoln Elementary School is supported by a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) and is not a member of the national PTA.
The technical difference between a PTA and a PTO are fairly simple. The national PTA is a formal membership organization with a history of more than 100 years of working for children. Local groups that choose to belong to the PTA must pay dues to the state and national organization and abide by state and national group rules. In return, they receive member benefits and are influential in the operations of the larger organization. Only dues-paying members of the group can call themselves a PTA.
PTO is more generic in meaning--it generally represents the thousands of groups that choose to remain independent of the PTA. The acronym "PTO" is the most commonly used title; other acronyms include PCC, PTG and HSA. PTOs are most often single-school groups operating under their own bylaws and generally focused on the happenings at their building or in their town.
Funds are raised primarily through the Back-to-School BBQ, Gallery Night, Basket Raffle and Direct Mail Campaign. With these funds, the Lincoln PTO is able to provide cultural arts programming, high interest day presentations and various activities that enrich the lives of our students.
In addition to the major fundraisers mentioned above, we also collect the following UPC's and proof of purchase labels:
